What We Do

Our Services

Groundworks for private clients, architects, builders, developers and insurers across Buckinghamshire, from the first cut to the final surface. We specialise in property foundations, basements, swimming pools, landscape gardens and driveways.

What we do

Groundworks is everything between the plot and the damp proof course, where a building starts to be erected. Then everything around the finished building that ties it back to the road, public paths and neighbours. We focus on groundworks predominantly in Buckinghamshire: Gerrards Cross and Beaconsfield, out through to the Chalfonts, Seer Green, Penn, Stoke Poges, Fulmer, Farnham Common and Denham.

The patch shapes the work. Chalk, gravel, clay-with-flints and London Clay can all turn up within a few streets of each other, so the ground here is never assumed. It is investigated. Add Green and Grey Belt policy, conservation areas, protected trees and many unadopted private roads, and the accessibility of plant and lorries on and off site matters as much as the infrastructure does.

How a price should arrive

Each client requires an individual, tailored approach. An architect requires a contractor who reads the drawings, states early what will not build, and turns up to the site meetings. A main contractor wants the package priced against the specification, on a programme that fits the other trades. A developer wants rates, measured quantities and a straight answer on provisional sums. A homeowner mostly wants to know what the number covers, what could change it and when they can enjoy their new home.

What we offer all four is the same discipline. Multiple site visits and surveys if required, before any final figure is given. A written breakdown by section or schedule rather than one lump. Provisional items named as provisional. And the assumptions written down. Depth assumed, muck-away loads allowed for, groundwater not encountered, access as seen on the day.

ASK ANY CONTRACTOR

  • What has this price assumed about the ground, and what is the additional cost if we have to go deeper?
  • How many loads of muck-away are allowed for, and who carries it if there are more?
  • Where does the surface water end up, and has anyone tested whether the ground will take it?
  • Which items are provisional, and what turns them into fixed figures?
  • Who holds the client duties under CDM, and who books the building control inspections?

Tell us your plans and location, and the first step is for us to visit your site to determine the ground quality. Request a quote and we will take it from there.
